3 New Year’s Resolutions For Your DISC Style

The new year is upon us!

It’s time to make resolutions and set goals for the future. But before you rush in, take a moment to consider your personality type. When deciding on resolutions, it’s important for each person to think about what will work best with their DISC behavioral style (Dominant, Inspiring, Supportive or Conscientious).

DOMINANCE

If your preferred behavioural style is Dominance (Outgoing/Task-Oriented) you might consider these resolutions.

1.Set goals and stick to them. People with a Dominant behavioural style are typically goal-oriented and thrive when they have a plan to achieve something. They like to be in control of their lives and feel productive. Make sure your resolutions fit into this category, or you’ll likely lose motivation down the road.

2. Take action. People with a Dominant behavioural style are doers, not watchers. They like to take charge and make things happen. When it comes to resolutions, this usually means taking the necessary steps towards achieving them (e.g., signing up for that gym membership, creating a budget).

3. Be competitive. People with a Dominant behavioural style often enjoy competing with others. Whether it’s in their professional or personal life, they like to be the best and have something to strive for. If your resolution can be turned into a competition (e.g., losing weight versus your co-worker), you’ll be more likely to stick with it.

INFLUENCE

If your preferred behavioural style is Influence (Outgoing/People-Oriented) then you should consider these 3 resolutions.

1.    Train your thoughts on a major creative project that you will complete in the New Year. The should keep your innovative juices flowing and provide you with something huge to celebrate this time next year.

2.    Make new friends. One of the best ways to start off the New Year is by surrounding yourself with positive people. This can be done by joining a club or group, signing up for classes, or creating your own networks online.

3.    Volunteer. Giving back to others is a great way to feel good about yourself while being a positive influence in the lives of others.

STEADINESS

If your preferred behavioral style is Steadiness (Reserved/People-Oriented) these resolutions will be a good fit for you.

1.    Be a mentor. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out in your career, take on the role of being someone’s mentor. The ability to show and teach others is an admirable quality that will boost your self-confidence and their morale.

2.    Be a safe-space for a younger person who might need an outlet outside of their immediate family.

3.    Share your knowledge and be a sounding board for someone who wants to bounce ideas off of you.

There are many ways to be a mentor, just find what works best for you and go from there!

CONSCIENTIOUSNESS

When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, staying true to your behavioral style is important. If you’re a Conscientious person, these three resolutions might be right up your alley:

Resolution #One: Be more mindful of time management.

Conscientious people are often very good at managing their time, but there’s always room for improvement and to bring your colleagues along. Your management of time is heavily dependent on those that you interact with consistently.

Resolution #Two: Say “yes” to more opportunities.

Conscientious people are often so engrossed in their own work that they don’t always take into account how they can help others or what new projects might be available for them to assist with. Make a point of saying yes when an opportunity presents itself instead of being pre-occupied with sticking to your plan and schedule.

This will allow you to broaden your horizons and grow as a person.

Resolution #Three: Take some time for yourself.

As a Cautious personality, taking some time to relax may seem like an impossible task. However, it’s very important that you take some time each day (or week) to do something that opens up new vistas and recharges your batteries.

Happy New Year!
